A General Authority at my sister's mission conference shook her hand, and asked vaguely, "So what are your plans after your mission?" She said something about finishing college, and he said, "Well, you should go to BYU." As her plans were for Utah State, she agonized--was this inspired apostolic advice, or just a random comment from a nice man? She ended up going to BYU for her MBA later, so that finally solved her quandary.
It would be so hard to be an GA, and have your least comment taken as gospel scripture. Of course, sometimes it's fun to take it that way. On the way out of a meeting, James E. Faust passed by, looked at my infant daughter in her car seat and said, "What a beautiful child!" and I've always felt she received an apostolic blessing of cuteness that day.

I love Mormon urban legends - they just recycle forever. I am still amazed at the number of people who require this type of story to be motivated to be prepared for the future. I am preparing so that if I lose my job or become disabled my family will be fine. I really don't care when the Second Coming happens, as long as it happens someday...

A friend of mine was leaving his mission in 1962. During his exit interview, his mission president asked him what his plans were.
