I will try to leave as many comments as possible from my Balckberry. President Monson is presiding at the priesthood session. |

A low wave of mumbled approvals just went through here, the home stake center of Elder Clayton, when his talk was announced. |
Elder Perry wisely avoids taking a position on contentious debate on Fosberry Flop vs. Western Roll highjumping technique. |
Elder Perry is speaking about raising the bar. He told a story about his son, Lee, and how he helped him become a better high jumper by raising the bar. He said, “How will you know how high you can jump if you don’t raise the bar?” |
Elder Perry named apprearance as one area in which we should “raise the bar” on missionaries. If we care about how missionaries look, we should encourage them to shed their ridiculous backpacks. |
GST, Elder Perry essentially endorses the Western Roll technique by staying that his son tried. But did not use the Fosberry Flop. What, please don’t tell me you are a flopper?!?! |
elder Perry: prospective missionaries should work on their social skills by putting down their video game paddles, iPods, and cell phones. “Too many youths learn to interact by text messages on cell phones.” He’s talking to you, Brian D. |
Donald Hallstrom speaking. “Do not procrastinate your conversion to the gospel.” |
He would be, except I am beyond the age of missionary service and commnicate better in person. Than on a PDA or cellphone. |
Is procrastination off limits now, too? This religion just keeps getting harder and harder. |
Elder Clayton casually works in to his opening his extravagant vacationing habits. |
The lesson from Elder Clayton’s story about the fish trap is that if you look at pornography, then Satan will eat you. |
Pornography: He’s against it. |
Elder Gonzalez: “The earthquakes that hit us might not be literal shaking of the ground.” This is like the speech about how our El Guapo might be shyness, etc. |
The music director bears a passing resemblance to Dan Quayle. |
That’s a plethora of good advice, GST. |
I know Dan Quayle. I’m friends with Dan Quayle. Sir, that choir director is no Dan Quayle. |
Elder Eyring delivered a fine talk on priesthood service. I am left wondering, however, about why a mob of torch and pitchfork-carrying townsfolk surrounded his boyhood Princeton home. He mentions the incident to tell the story of his mother miraculously dispersing the mob without any explanation of what caused it to assemble. |
For those that aren’t here, President Monson spoke on “the marks of a true holder of the Priesthood of God.” Vision, effort, faith, virtue, and prayer. |
President Hinckley is speaking on anger. |
He also spoke on the virtue of having flaming red hair. President Hinckley is looking for him to dye his hair. |
I’m I the only one who finds priesthood to be consistently the least uplifting session of GC? |
Andrew: Probably. |
I love the song he quoted that was written by Charles W. Penrose, “School thy feelings.” |
Great talk on anger by our prophet. Looks like they won’t be lifting the coffee ban today. I’m still hopeful about tomorrow. |
Closing number: “We Ever Pray for Thee.” gst out |
DKL – Is there a rumor I have not heard? |
I posted this question over at BCC but thought since some of you may have been at the conf center you may have the answer. Does anyone know what the shouting was coming over the satellite feed at the end of priesthood session? It was in between when Pres. Hinckley was sitting down and the choir singing. |
gst (12), Is Elder Clayton loaded with cash? |
Elder Eyring mentioned recently speaking to an angry crowd on First Presidency assignment. Was he talking about his recent assignment to speak at the Mountain Meadows Memorial? Were some in the crowd angry? And it wouldn’t be priesthood meeting without a pornography talk. |
Highlights from Priesthood session -The session ends seven minutes early! |

This Priesthood session was the best I’ve been to in a long, long time. I thought Elder Clayton had a thoughtful treatment of pornography — it seemed to be lacking in the hysteria that can sometimes characterize those discussions. And Elder Eyring’s talk had a lot of the candor we love to hear in conference talks. |
“He mentions the incident to tell the story of his mother miraculously dispersing the mob without any explanation of what caused it to assemble.” Insert link to the story on one of the LDS ladies’ blogs (FMH or MMW or something), the one about the woman fending off some threatening street toughs by saying she had tampons in her purse. |
Dan, I agree that it was an amazing priesthood session. I’m not sure it was the best in a long time, because I can’t remember going to a priesthood session that wasn’t absolutely amazing. gst, thanks for the regular informative updates. |
AS an intersting aside, we didn’t get thye first half because of satellite failure at the chapel, and my brother in law was super ticked at his parents because he’d just been grounded. I found it very interesting the president Hinckley so calmly and kindly decided to give a talk on Anger to my BIL tonight…. |
I loved last night’s priesthood session. I’m in a bit of awe of our First Presidency. What a great blessing it is to have leaders like this in our church. |
Jon (29), I heard that too; I thought it was the choir director giving instructions to the choir. It was right after Pres. Hinckley’s talk, before the choir started singing. |
Does any one think resident Monson should dye his hair red. I vote: Yes! But would that show modesty? |
[...] inspiration for this came from this Sunstone Online Post. And this Mormon Mentality Post that asked people to post the messages the GAs were talking about in the General Conference [...] |
