Ben There,

If only the pumpkin had a personal VPN then it would be safe from pirates, right?

I have to admit that I hadn't thought of the humor of a pirate being stolen, but it is certainly there.

Sorry to state the obvious, and the hurt feelings of a young child aside, the very idea of a PIRATE being STOLEN amuses me in an odd way.

my husband took his digital camera to work, left it out, and it's gone. unfortunately, i haven't uploaded pics since july and we have a 7mo, so i'm sick over it. even sadder, he's a cop. i'm so disappointed that it happened at work. maybe it will still turn up, but it's been four days.

our last camera was stolen exactly two years prior by movers when we were leaving hawai'i. it had all of the pics from our final travels and visits with friends.

good on you for teaching your son now. maybe he won't grow up to be someone who steals baby pictures from mommies. :(

I'd guess that his Halloween haul was taxed at at least a 50% rate.

Pirate smirate. Better start teaching your son that one day soon 50% of everything he earns will be stolen/confiscated by the state (via direct taxes, regulations, inflation, etc.)

I thought that was very insightful of your son ARJ - perhaps he will be a detective when he grows up... The lessons of forgiveness are a challenge to learn, particularly when you want to mix it with justice. I remember once I learned about forgiveness, I was always telling my parents to forgive me whenever I got in trouble thinking that would absolve me of punishment - didn't quite work that way though.

Great post, arj. Your son has a profound sense of justice. That's a good thing.

Good post, John. I stole a pair of little plastic sunglasses (it was my sister's idea, but she was only four and I was almost six) and my dad beat the holy hell out of me and I have never stolen another thing to this day. My sisters grew up to shoplift their basic necessities and many of life's luxuries, to children, that is.

Myself I just buried my head in a book and ignored the hunger pains.

Forgiveness, Jamie, that's a neat story, would that I would be as big a person as that woman.

I'm sort of with your son, though, ARJ, it's how my mind works.

Jamie,

I agree that forgiveness is a wonderful lesson to learn. Our problem in this instance is that we don't know who to forgive and I think our son suspects everyone. I'll have to tell him that Swiper took it. Then he'll have someone concrete to be mad at and to forgive.

J. Stapley,

Thanks!
