Missouri gentiles will have to either gain a divine connection to their homeland, or be displaced completely by the coming wave of Mormons who have, for generations, looked to these lands as their divine inheritance and birthright. Palestine and Israel have fought over their land for decades, because each of them feel the sacredness that God intends it for them alone. Without the depth of conviction for the ground on which we live, the Mormons will be able to entice us, or our descendents to sell. There is sadly a saying that everyone has a price. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just all share and help each other regardless of religious dogma?

Similarities:
Israel and Missouri are both seen by cetain religious followers as sacred and promised. Pre-1948 sentiment was to converge on Israel. When recognized, even more Jews moved to the land, much the same as Missouri will one day be, no matter why likes it and who doesnt. The effected yearners have for generations desired thier peoples to inhabit and occupy the sacred territory.

Non-similarities:
Israel and Palastine, for generations, both have seen lands of dispute as Gods land for them alone. Missourians, as of yet, do not seem to have this divine long term connection to their lands, and eventually will most likely sell out for a price.

The Problem is Peace:
As a type and shadow, Isreal and Palastine have both been incapable of achieving peace, and the question is, can the religious who seek a Missouri Zion create a peacful coexistance with non-believers, at least until all the land is bought up by the dominant. Is Zion/heaven a collection of only one group of people who cannot see humanity as a brotherhood?

This information is meant for sociologists and historians. This area (Missouri, or the new- Jerusalem) is the future promised land, and has been written in scripture for 170 years or so. Nothing you or I do can change this future. Its much like the Bible and the future of Isael, old-Jerusalem. I wish we (the locals of Missouri) had a deeper spiritual connection to this land, but the coming generations will sell it off unless they they are taught to have a long range view/vision of its sacredness and beauty. The closest thing we do have, is that many farmers however, do hold a deeper connection. Those of Israel and Palestine have a deeper connection and niether they nor thier families will ever sell, or give it up. Again, this issue was not meant for the locals to debate, because you dont have the background or understanding. If you want to feel around in the dark and take blind pot shots go right ahead, unless you want to spend the time to educate yourselves.

Marriage:
What is marriage? What was marriage to Joseph Smith? Did he see it the way we see it today? How did he use sealing powers, and what had he seen to attempt to bond, unify, of oelesce the early saints. Was it more than a man and a wife? Was it more than plural wives? Are we married to someone if we are not of one heart with them? Is there a higher meaning behind marriage that we must learn to bring again zion? Most would say no, we know enough already. We know what we know, but we do not know what we do not know. Johnathan Livingston Seagull did not know his limits, nor do we. As GBH stated, let us bring all that is good to the table and share. We might find that we did not have as much as we thought, and we might learn there were those not in our group that had something we needed. Jurisdiction, responsibility, and understanding. The only thing we can control directly, at any given moment, is understanding. As that expands, the others automatically follow. Is this greek to you?

There are so many quote from this wonderful man that we followed for so long. We can't find them all but as we gather each little bit and peice. We can hold it and treasure it as a sacret part of out guidance. President Hinckley was so humble and special to me that that I will always remember his words. His teachings were so tender and touching and are in my heart. My love and prayers are with his family always. I know the Prophet is with his wife teaching the gospel together again, they are most likely with the past Prophets.

Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley is the only living Prophet that I ever saw in my entire life as an LDS.He visited our country during the time that I was less active in the Church and my faith is somehow unstable, but when I saw him walking from the main entrance towards the stage where he is about to speak, people were applauding and waving at him and there was this unexplainable feeling that I had within me,an assurance that this man is indeed a Prophet of God who holds the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven in these latter days.I will surely miss his humility, his wisdom ,his humor and the great love that he had for the Church and its people.Thank you dear Prophet for dedicating your whole life for all of us....

I think of Hinckley's words on road rage frequently as I commute the AZ freeways. I will be interested to see Monson's focus. He is very personable and sweet like Hinckley was, but in a more folksy way.

queuno: amen. Lots of big strides forward happened under President Hinckley's helmsmanship. I believe he was the "effective" president since 1982 (when he was made 3rd counselor in the 1st presidency) until Ezra Taft Benson became president, and then became the effective president again at some point during President Benson's tenure. (I wasn't paying attention during President Hunter's presidency.)

Of course, I don't think any major step was taken without full approval of the 12, and the Lord of course.

I've been spiritually bonked on the head (and kicked in the behind) enough times to know that the Lord can make his will known when he wants to. If the Lord cares about the little people like me, I have no doubt he guides people at all levels.

He was this generation's David O. McKay. In 30 years, we'll still be quoting him to our grandchildren, who will say to themselves, "Weren't there any OTHER prophets that our grandparents liked, other than Gordon B. Hinckley?"

:)

I have fond memories of some of his talks.
