I LOVE to see how other people mark their scriptures (I am not much of a marker myslef), I think I would out myself as a scripture peek-sneaker if I saw your “this is crap!” Too funny. Sometime do a post on the verses that earn that. |
Most versions of the Book of Mormon do not include those 4 words in the introduction. |
This is my first comment, but I just wanted to weigh in here. I didn’t remember reading that either, but I just checked the copy I have with me at work, and sure enough it says “as does the Bible.” This is in the most recent missionary edition. Interesting… |
My Book of Mormon was published in 1981, so it’s been in there for at least 26 years. I just never noticed it. |
Thanks Anne – good to hear that your approach is similar to mine – at least I am not alone in my sometimes “improper” thoughts about the scriptures. I skim, cringe, chuckle, cry, gasp, etc. while reading the scriptures. |
This phrase was first included with the introduction in 1981 and has been in the English intro since. It was removed from foreign-language editions in 1992 and the 2004 Doubleday edition (it isn’t in the 2007 edition either). Apparently it will not be included in the next official English revision printed by the Church. See this post for more details. |

David G, It was my understanding the Doubleday edition includes the introduction with the forthcomming “the principle ancestors” to “among the ancestors” change. |

Why the assumption that the Bible has tons of errors but that the Book of Mormon doesn’t? The fullness of the gospel is what needs to be defined here. What is a fullness of the gospel? |
Annegb–It appears to say the same thing in the verse below as it does in the introduction. And again, the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in the which is the fulness of the gospel.D&C 42:12 However, I read this two ways: the principles of the gospel appears to be in both the Bible and Book of Mormon. Then it says “in the which is the fulness of the gospel”, is that referring to both or just the Book of Mormon? I’ve decided to read it in the affirmative. The Bible does teach the “fulness of the gospel” as defined by the scripture I refer to below. ———————————- Good question. I should read the intro again. I am someone who would rather skip chapter headings because they don’t help a lot of times with enough background. When I was at the MTC and in the mission field, sometimes people would give very meaningful backgrounds before reading a scripture passage. Those were often such spiritual experiences. |
