No way, John, you’re not going anywhere. Do I have to come over to London and smack you? I have a passport and frequent flier miles, young man. |
This move couldn’t be more inspired. BCC needs to be reeled in a bit from left–and John is just the man to do it. It only takes one good conservative to bring balance to a benighted liberal blog. The DKL’s, Geoff B.’s, John F.’s, etc. are the salt of the left leaning ‘nacle; the leaven of the liberal lump. Yes, I dare say, without that dash of conservative yeast the entire Mormon Blogsphere would be flat as a pancake! |
john f, don’t worry- there’s no such thing as a demotion in the Bloggernacle. We serve wherever we are asked. |
I clicked Yes with my left hand. Does that mean it’s invalid? |
No, Ben. There are no invalid votes of thanks: all votes of thanks are good votes of thanks. |
Boy, we were talking about the arrogance of other blogs… |
Does anyone remember Steve Evans complaining about poaching? … but who am I to talk. I guest-blogged at BCC: once. Once. I’m sad John Fowles is leaving us and I look forward to reading his future contributions at BCC: or anywhere else he chooses to blog. It certainly is noteworthy that BCC: is willing to move beyond the liberal label and bring on someone who has a reputation as a conservative. Can’t blame them for seeing Mr. Fowles as an asset. |
queuno, we’re not arrogant, I swear. |
So MM is the AAA team for BCC? |
Queuno, in essence your comment makes a good point. I’m not exactly happy with BCC: inviting permabloggers on other established LDS blogs (especially ours) to join up with them. It’s a cute gambit to invite someone to guest-blog for awhile and then follow it up with an invite to perma-blog. BCC: is a very solid blog and the invite could have appeal. But is it appropriate? I know, I know. Everyone has free agency and I since it’s a done deal, I can respect John F.’s decision - but I think BCC: would howl if we were issuing similar invites to their personnel - especially if the invitation were accepted. On the other hand, maybe BCC: is extremely confident that no one would make that journey. We’ve already begun a miniature discussion (on another thread) about ego, pride and condescension in the ‘Nacle … |
Thanks for this. I had a blast here at MM and hate to leave but the Bloggernacle is one big family anyway and we will continue our discussions both here and there as before. DKL is actually being too generous. The truth is that he was kind enough to let me tag along as he and the other founders of the blog brought this project to life — and they succeeded wonderfully, and it was an honor to be associated with it from that stage. |
Hey there John F. Don’t mind me grumbling too much. I liked having you around. |
I don’t know why, but this reminds of an experience at BYU. My freshman year, there were a bunch of guys who didn’t get invited to Preference (the girl’s choice winter formal, so to speak). We organized an anti-Preference Guy’s Night Out, and only those guys on our floor who didn’t get asked were invited. Oh, we were excited. One of my friends (and future roommate) and I were in charge of the planning. We had a lot of guys coming — some of them were fairly popular guys who were in between girlfriends (it wasn’t a thing for losers). We openly bragged about how were “above it all”. Then a girl I knew asked me to the dance 2 days before. I bailed on our anti-Preference GNO in about 30 seconds. |
queuno: Isn’t it amazing how women have some sort of power to immediately kidnap any member of, or bust up, a chapter of “Spanky’s He-Man Woman-haters Club” ? John F going to BCC probably is like missionaries going to preach to the Philistines. DKL, by the way, what happened to Dan Ellsworth in the “Top Commenters” side box? |
I need to comment more, apparently. |
I like to think of johnf becoming more like Alma. Whose arms will he cut off? |
Come now, not all of us a Philistines. |
_are_ Philistines. Evidently, while I may be upright, my children continue to leach my braincells. |
True, tracy m. Not all. Actually, I think johnf needs to spend time cleaning house in another couple of big blogs as well. Oh, I miss BOH. |
Bookslinger, MM bloggers are supposed to be excluded from the commenters list. However, sometimes we sneak through. Then the filter gets updated and we’re gone again. |
