DKL--I guess you could find some quotes to support that. I'm OK with it as long as you don't try to make him an American!

Atieno--Donji! So nice of you to read.

queuno--I would guess so, but I wouldn't SAY it if I were running for office....

matt b--thanks--I love to think that Jesus would agree.

Thanks, Emily. Making the sacred meaningful is, I think, why theology's important. And I of course think Jesus would agree.

Hi esodhiambo.
I've been reading this blog for a while, and I must admit, I'm addicted!

Your Luo connections intrigue me (for obvious reasons). Above all, it's nice to come on here and read a variety of perspectives from members of the Church of LDS.

As for recreating God in our own image, we're all guilty of that. Best case scenario, it allows us to form a personal relationship with God. Worst case scenario, we use it to justify our own selfish agendas.

Your insights on the atonement are precisely what I feel, and in fact, have felt for a number of years. Easter is the most special time of the year for me because it is a time of transformation and of possibilities.

Have a Happy Easter.

Great post. Just a couple of mostly irrelevant comments:

When I hear people talk about feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and housing the homeless, I'm reminded of one of Robert Redford's line in The Candidate, where he begins making fun of his own, meaningless campaign rhetoric, saying, "We can't any longer play off black against old! Young against poor! This country cannot house its houseless! Feed its foodless!"

Also, you site this guy in your ward who wants to think that Jesus is the Brawny Paper Towel Man, and you posit that he wants to think this because he likes to think of himself as the Brawny Paper Towel Man. This is very insightful and no doubt correct. For my part, I like to view Jesus as an angry, argumentative crank.
