Mint Holliday M&Ms. It’s the best bad chocolate around. |
Please forgive my telestial spelling. |
My wife loves Cadbury Minieggs – we just wish they were available year round. |
Robin’s eggs, even though they’re basically Whoppers in disguise. |
Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs, with the white chocolate. And Starburst-flavored jelly beans. |
I despise anything with dark chocolate, basically. |
Queuno, I have some dark chocolate you ought try. There’s even a promo we’re running for a specialized wine site that you might like. (Lasts until about the end of the month) The reason most people hate dark chocolate is because the darker the chocolate the more you taste the quality of the bean. And with most cocao beans you don’t want to taste it. (grin) So they dilute it with milk and tons of sugar. |
Pretty much anything Sees. I especially like some of the Sees easter eggs that are available this time of year. |
Queuno – I did not like dark chocolate until I met Lindt dark truffles – they are heavenly – you should try them. Our two year old has one each night for dinner. There is a Lindt seconds store in NH and you can get truffles for $3/pound so we stock up every couple of weeks. However, they did have a 99% dark bar at the store. We bought one and it tasted like dirt – it was horrible… |
I should have run out to Boehm’s Candies in Issaquah, WA to see if they do holiday stuff. Slap a holiday sticker on the box and they would easily be my favorite holiday candy. |
If you like truffles or bon bons and live in Utah may I strongly suggest you go talk to Chris Blue over at Chocolate Blue in American Fork. He was a pastry chef at Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago. When he went out on his own one of the main chefs there (who was from SLC) convinced him to set up shop here. I’ve tasted a lot of chocolates (i.e. deserts made from chocolate) and his is the best in the country bar none. Charlie Trotters actually still buys stuff from him to sell in Chicago. And if you know restaurants you know Trotter’s is arguably one of the best restaurants in the country. Gramercy Tavern is the only one I’d think is generally considered better. So it’s amazing he’s here in Utah. (Unfortunately it looks like he may move to California due to the lack of appreciate of good expensive food here – people keep asking him if it is as good as Sees which is actually a pretty big insult) It’s expensive. You’ll pay about $20 for 3 truffles. But is well, well, well, worth it. |
If it’s chewy and sweet – I probably like it. |
Clark – I might take you up on that. My wife is a big chocolate fan, at any rate. I spent my formative years with a mother who couldn’t understand *why* I loved vanilla. I worked at a swanky chocolate and ice cream sundae shop after my HS graduation (where I learned that if you want to ice cream by itself, get the fancy flavors, but if you want a nice sundae, vanilla is a better base). My MIL even suggested that DW call off the wedding over my dislike for chocolate cake. But I don’t dislike chocolate, per se. It’s a nice complement. I love hot chocolate — even strong hot chocolate. And I love candy bars (but probably for the fillings). And I do like Leonidas (spell?). At any rate, I tried really hard this year to cut out sweets all together (is that Tagore learning to go with a nonmonetary society in his house?). |
Dove, dark chocolate hearts |
Twix. |
How about Cadbury Creme Eggs? I wait every year to have mine and one year one of my siblings ate mine. I had to wait two years to get the precious egg! |
Dove Truffle eggs. And, though they do not make them anymore, Starburst hearts for Valentines. They are like sweet tarts only better. Also, anything chocolate and mint–the hershey’s mint truffle kisses they put out at Christmas were surprisingly good. |
you’re absolutely right — these are the only candies I bought for Easter this year. don’t they make a mint version in red, green, and white for Christmas? |
These are excellent. And my boss has a stash of them in her office – thank you for the reminder. |
I don’t even want to admit how much of Clark’s chocolate I’ve eaten. I actually have a bar sitting on my desk right now as I work. My two year old comes in from time to time and steals a tablet for herself. The notable thing is that this is a two year old eating 70% dark chocolate. My four year old also thinks it is the best. You know it has to be good if the tots prefer it to “candy”. |
SweetTart jelly beans. Those cannot be beat. All the sweetish and tartish sugary flavor of the rolled candy, formed into a squishy bean shape. Yum. |
I just bought 4 bags of Cadbury eggs at CVS for $1 a bag – I love those after Easter specials. Of course, it was for my Primary class… |
Dave and I intentionally didn’t buy Easter candy before Easter this year, hoping to stock up on sale candy after. And it was all full price when we went shopping on Monday! I’m still waiting for my Butterfinger-bit eggs and marshmellow eggs. Yes, I like them. |
If you are looking for a great year-round Mormon candy, then you ought to check out Mormints. We’ve created the perfect treat for sharing The Book of Mormon with friends or just treating yourself to a sweet treat that is ‘good’ for you. They are mints with a message. Mark |
misc pickins in Ogden has lots of cheap stuff if you don’t care about expiration dates. |
