Feeling more random than usual, John? Or just contemplating rabbit stew? |
I now have a little girl and was thinking about songs to sing to her… This came to mind, I’m not an anti gun liberal by any stretch, AND I wondered if “shoot me dead” was a bit too harsh. |
me, the “shoot me dead” part upsets my 4 year old. He sings “Or the hunter WON’T shoot me dead!” |
Oh, oh, oh! That is my favorite FAVORITE childhood song. I have such marvelous memories of my father singing that to me. John, children’s nursery rhymes are SUPPOSED to be violent and a bit on the dark side. That’s the way they’ve been for centuries and all those kids made it somehow, didn’t they? |
Seth R., I’m well aware of that. I’m simply reporting what my son’s reaction has been. I’ve tried to discourage his lyrics change but to no avail. |
My kids really like this song. I was ambivalent at first, but after ten years of singing it, I’m desensitized. The thing that really bugs me now is when my husband sings it the way he was taught, with extra words messing up the meter. The “jazzy” version was on Full House. I don’t know if it originated there. |
