ESO, Is it pilgrams or pilgrims? |
Thanks, Dan. My second grade teacher would have been so disappointed in me. |
Our family went for the first time last year and had a great time. Amen on the salt potatos, good stuff. We went to Niagara Falls on the way there and stopped at the Corning glass museum on the way home. Each of these was a good time, if not very close to Palmyra. Avoid the Living Scriptures Folks at all costs.. I’d rather talk to the antis. |
The cast was very nice also, tough they tend to proselyte BEING in the pageant. I’m still talking my 11 year old down from that idea |
Do the cast members still come around and talk to people and then give them stickers to wear? The stickers were to mark which folks had been greeted. My friends and I knew that, so we kept taking ours off so that new cast members would come over, and as one approached, we would compete to guess what part of Utah the cast member was from. We could also work our guess into initial conversation with the cast member, if we needed to update our guess based on accent. (I won, being newly relocated from Cache Valley, and experienced in the local hair and dress styles.) |
I saw this post this morning and emailed the link to my better half. This looks like a good set of guidelines for a trip I want to do. Thank you for putting this together. |
John scherer–Corning is a cool museum. I included some stuff that is a bit far just because I think most people come via road trip and heck, Corning might be on the way. Yes–people LOVE being in Pagaent. It is, essentially, a 3-week EFY/Education week. Families in it make a huge commitment of time, but many do it year after year. I’d rather cut off my eyelids, but, you know, I already spent four years at BYU, so I am all full of devotionals. Paula–Yes on the stickers, etc. I would guess that half of the cast is local, though. I don’t want to get sucked into the vortex of discussing the politics of “staff Families” vs. cast, but, I bet your game would be harder now. |
This is great - thanks for putting it together. |
ESO, No prob. Palmyra rocks. My wife’s sister got sealed to her family there one year ago. It was a wonderful experience, and we were there on a spectacularly beautiful day. I recommend Palmyra to anyone. |
I can’t say enough about how great Palmyra and the pageant are. Growing up in Ohio, this was a biannual trip. When I went to BYU, I heard all about these “knockoff” pageants all over — but they weren’t “real” like the HC pageant. |
I haven’t been to the HC pageant, but I’ve seen video footage, and it strikes me as embarrassingly weird. Am I misguided in my thinking? |
Tagore–I must admit to falling in the “not a fan of Pageant” category. It is both bad religion (you know, condensing the entire BoM and JS story into 80 minutes) and bad theatre. Yet, I recognize it to be one those trips many Mormon families make, and why not enjoy it? |
Uhm, isn’t the dress rehearsal actually on thursday night? |
*** MASSIVE THREADJACK *** Can anyone provide me with guidance on Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, Custer, etc.? queuno - at - gmail, if you don’t mind… |
The HC pageant is the gold standard upon which all lesser Mormon pageants are based. And Samuel the Lamanite — it’s a cool moment. People rave and rave about passion plays; this is just an similar concept. |
sjs–you were right–dres rehearsal on Thursday–I changed the post |
