Great story, Devyn. |
How interesting that your grandfather worked for a nuclear power plant near Idaho Falls. My biological father also worked as an engineer for a nuclear power plant near Idaho Falls for about 20 years. They’ve since either shut down or reduced their staff since he now travels to other nuclear sites across the country. What a strange, small world it is at times. Thanks for sharing! |
PPP – I think the facility is still there as I have a friend who works out there. It is also a facility for training the Navy on nuclear reactors – right in the middle of Idaho which always makes me chuckle. |
The Navy is actually how my biological father got his job there in the first place. In fact, my sister was born in Idaho Falls while he (and, by association, my mother) were still in the Navy! Seems like a crazy place for a Naval post, huh? |
PPP – not somewhere I would want to be stationed if I could pick San Diego or some other nice port. |
I totally agree! They had me in San Diego… Much nicer local for a Naval post! |
Thanks, Devyn. This is really something to think about. Regarding the Navy in Idaho, besides the reactor training, there is also Lake Pend Oreille where quarter-scale submarines (100 foot-long models) are tested. A deep mountain lake makes a great place to study underwater acoustics. |
John – wow, I did not know that about Lake Pend Oreille – isn’t that an extremely deep lake? |
