So far: Packer, Edgely, Costa, Uchtdorf. Next, Eyring. |
When Packer said that he was addressing the youth, I just knew he’d tell them not to touch themselves. It’s a good thing that he was only addressing the youth, or I’d feel roundly condemned. |
I think that Uchdorf’s talk about focussing on the Eternal and not the trivia applies to people blogging during conference. Finally, I feel roundly condemned. |
Elder Costa said, “I can’t believe, as I stand here today, that I’m not an apostle yet. No, it’s another honky from Idaho. To hell with all of you.” Then he discussed mounting a write-in campaign with the help of BCC commenters. |
Is Eyring talking about Black Hawk Down? |
Costa’s talk will definitely have to be edited and refilmed like all the other heretical GC talks. |
Yes. I would have liked it if he’d mentioned the names of the hard chargers that won the MOH: Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart. Every 12 year-old boy should know those names. |
Agreed. |
Finally President Monson. I’m in the mood for a good bishop story. |
Some good talks. Almost ready for our steak meeting at Kitty Pappas. My boys are enthused about going to priesthood session and even bring non members to participate in the steak meeting afterwards. |
Uchdorf and Eyring were especially good. The prophet is sure to deliver the goods as well. |
What? No bishop story from President Monson? So much for tradition… I guess his story of being secretary to the deacons quorum will have to do. |
Great story from Canada, eh! |
Great closing prayer. Shorter than most GC prayers, and I’m thankful for that. |
Wow. President Packer telling young men to cook and sew, spend time in the kitchen, etc. |
Tonight is your phone call, brethren. We call upon you to mobilize to face the (employment) challenges of our members. DKL, indeed his choice of anecdotes was odd. i found it difficult to be inspired by the story of an egg-salad-sickened kid being healed that he might march in a western parade. |
uh… miss the point much? It was his story that tied in #3 Living Righteously. #1 I believe was Study, #2 was Pray Fervently. The two young Elders lived righteously so they knew they would have the power of the Priesthood. It had nothing to do with the marching band or the sandwich, that was just the context. But they did get that Blue Ribbon and made Auntie Ann proud! :) |
I liked Boyd Packer’s talk, especially the instruction that boys learn how to cook and sew. Good stuff. However, the number one thing I took away from the talk is how old President Packer is getting. He seems to have aged significantly since last conference. |
I noticed all the opening and closing prayers this conference were noticeably shorter than previous conferences. I didn’t time them, but I’m guessing all were under 40 seconds. |
Is it bad if I think that last October’s priesthood session was better? |
DKL “When Packer said that he was addressing the youth, I just knew he’d tell them not to touch themselves. It’s a good thing that he was only addressing the youth, or I’d feel roundly condemned.” David, you’re a wanker! |
DKL – At least he didn’t use the “factory” metaphor again. |
