This is what happens when you hitch your ride to politics and doctrinal discussions that have been hashed to death. AMV has been kicking butt all year. ;-P |
Buck up, Devyn! I’m sure a little navel-gazing will make you feel better. If it helps, BCC’s been kickin’ it old-skool all year. |
Keepapitchinin has continued its daily postings — something no other ‘nacle blog can boast — as well as going to Twitter and Facebook. No death struggles there! When the rest of the ‘nacle leaves you empty, Devyn, come on over to Keepa. This morning you can listen to professionally played organ and piano recordings of the old-time Mormon songs we have been posting as an early Advent. |
I feel like the entire blogÂgerÂnaÂcle has had a down year after the excitÂing politÂiÂcal issues of the last couÂple of years. AnyÂone else feelÂing it? Very strongly agree. |
Very strongly disagree. |
Oh, and I also very strongly agree with comment #1! |
1. Wm MorÂris – all in the eye of the beholder. I can’t say I have seen a lot of new interesting stuff out there, Ardis being the exception! Besides AMV then, have you noticed anything different this year? 2. Steve Evans – again all in the eye of the beholder. I could claim that Mormon Mentality is kicking butkus as well which I believe it is (ESO is on a streak), but I do feel that overall the entire Bloggernacle is “down” this year – except for Ardis. Perhaps it is all in my eyes, but I certainly have noticed a difference this year across the blogs. So BCC aside, can you admit the rest of us are having a down year? 3. Ardis ParÂshall – I will readily admit that Keepa is one of the sites that has fresh and interesting content that I enjoy reading. 4. patriÂcia k. – so which is it? 5. Ben – that is all you got is a strongly disagree? |
maybe your standards for what’s “blog worthy” are too high… |
Maybe you’re just depressed. The nacle looks a lot better through the prozac goggles. Or, um, so I’m told. |
“that is all you got is a strongly disagree?” I mostly think it depends on your interests. Since I am interested in history, social commentary, and theology, there has been some extraordinarily excellent posts and discussions in the bloggernacle lately. If your interests are in other areas, there may not be as much focus lately. |
Sigh…I suppose, Ardis, that this explains why you’ve been too busy to put a check in the mail after you asked for my address and I posted it publicly. You have no idea what it has done to our relationship that you’ve behaved in this fashion. I simply don’t respect people who do things like this and I don’t care how good your blog is. This tells me what kind of person you really are. I’m really really mad at you. |
#7 Devyn S. It’s whatever it amuses me most to say at the moment. Which means that sometimes it will be both at once. |
8. SUNNofaB.C.Rich – clearly you have not read some of my posts if you think my standards are too high :) 9. MCQ – hmm, never uh tried that… 10. Ben – I am open to suggestions / recommendations as to posts you liked. 12. patriÂcia k. – you sound like my wife :) |
I agree 100%. This year in general there haven’t been as many hot potato issues to dig into as there were during the presidential campaign. Things have settled down a bit. In reality, it is probably no less eventful than your average year. It is just that last year we had so much anxiety with the economic collapse and everything else that was happening simultaneously. It is time we look again at the policies that our current administration is trying to enact and judge the future consequences of those policies if they become law. |
From the assignment desk: Manhattan Declaration After the events of the preceding 18 months, it ought to be big news for politically engaged Mormons, but so far, crickets. |
Yes, I feel the same sometimes! I hope you get your inspiration back soon!! |
Ardis, send me money, or I’ll get really mad, too. |
The way in which the MD was launched might simply mark a return to the tried-and-true LDS “behind the scenes” ploy, or perhaps it signals that it’s finally dawning on some in SLC that Romney (or any other Mormon, for that matter) will never become president by hitching their star to the fundie base of the GOP. If the former, the MD is of passing interest, since the Mormons have run that play countless times before; but, if it’s the latter, the game could get interesting. Incongruity is a way of life for an LDS membership that (much more so than their Evangelical and Catholic counterparts) is acclimated to church teachings that turn on a dime (which is why the LDS leadership holds more real power than any bishop or pastor). At the end of the day, for both the LDS hierarchy and the rank-and-file, this is not about the finer points of theology or ideology. Robbie George’s ragtag armada of biblically and historically constrained “Christian” leaders is no match for the Mormons in terms of dollars and the pollster’s definition of “enthusiasm.” As such, for now, the salient question, the question that needs to be posed to the LDS leadership or LDSPA, needs to be in regards to their take on the MD. Mormons are twice as educated, three times as wealthy, and a hundred times more organized than almost any other church membership you’ll find on the planet. Whether or not the LDS support Robbie George’s latest manifesto is more a problem for Prof. George than for the Mormons, but so far, my sense is that the LDS leadership will try to remain mum, or at least vague, on this question for as long as possible, but there it is. The question of the hour. Do Mormons support the Manhattan Declaration? |
Cheer up Devyn. Glenn Beck will be running for office in 2012. Should be loads of fun in the Bloggernacle in no time at all. |
“I am open to sug ges tions / rec om men da tions as to posts you liked.” Gosh, so many to remember. But, off the top of my head, and only digging out of the Juvenile Instructor archives, I strongly recommend Edje’s series on “All God’s Creatures”–by far the most fascinating and creative posts I’ve seen in a long time. See entries here, here, here, here, here, and here. For a wonderfully written defense of Mormon history within the larger field of Mormon studies, see Chris’s post here. I was a part of a larger roundtable examining Parley Pratt’s Autobiography which had 12 phenomenal individual posts. Also check out the many notes of various conferences that were recorded by Jared T, which are a goldmine in themselves. If history is not your forte, there were many other memorable non-history related posts, including Steve P’s Lost Ten Tribes Found (or anything written by Steve P for that matter), and Russel’s Auld Lang Sin, which was, in my opinion, the most touching post I’ve read on the bloggernacle. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. |
Devyn: I gave you a few examples of great posts from the last year, but it looks like it got caught in the spam filter because of all the links. Oh, and if you are into political stuff, all the Glen Beck coverage has already been enough for me to get tired of it. |
LdChino, well, I find that heartening. I didn’t know all that good stuff about us. I’d vote for Mitt over Palin, but I like this guy I heard on talk radio. I can’t think of her name, she’s blond, blue-eyed, not quite as strident. I think it was Lindsay Graham. He’s a Republican from some southern state. I’d recognize his voice. |
14. Dan – good point last year was certainly an extraordinary year. 15. LdChino – Good point… Where is DKL? 16. Anna – thanks Anna and I hope the rest of the ‘nacle does too 19. Daniel – now that will generate a lot of interest – of course, what and where would he run? 20. Ben – thanks! I am heading there now to check them out. |
Devyn, Didn’t you see? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/22/business/media/22beck.html Or he’s just the biggest charlatan America has seen in a really long time and he’s only doing all this to sell books and make money, bamboozling millions of people along the way. I wonder how long he can keep up the charade. He’s a morning zoo crew after all. This is classic morning zoo crew. |
Ardis, send me money, or I’ll get really mad, too. How about if I just order a blogger package? |
23. That’s one powerful Bat-Signal you’ve got there, Commissioner Gor … er, Devyn. |
lol, Devyn S. Your wife probably isn’t an AMV blogger. (I am, and proud of it.) |
Mock me if you must. It’s not about the money. It’s the principle. It’s about integrity. And manners. Good manners people would have returned the card, or a $10 bill with regrets. I’m simply appalled at the hubris implied here. The “screw you” attitude belies all the heartfelt posts. Perhaps I’ve experienced the reality. No, I’m upset. I’m pretty sure of it. |
how about a discussion of why garments are so expensive? seems like 1) zero advertising or branding should keep expenses REALLY low so why don’t they cost like a buck? seems like they are priced far too close to “regular” underwear |
24. Daniel – I did read the Time magazine article on him and that was scary 26. LdChino – wow I guess it works! 27. patriÂcia k. – not yet, but I am working on getting her more interested in the ‘nacle |
