Ikea daybed with foam mattress. Nothing especially wrong with it, except that it is an Ikea daybed with a foam mattress.

Would you swap me an interesting and not completely worn-out and marked-up used book for this used daybed?

Just not the Book of Mormon in Tagalog or anything by Paul Coelho or Stieg Larsson, okay? But you already know what I mean by interesting. Because you are a person who goes through a lot of books, am I right? Yes, you are. You know just the sort of used book to offer to swap for a piece of utilitarian furniture. A person who reads as much as you do can’t keep all the interesting books he or she reads and live in a succession of tiny New York apartments and constantly be packing books and moving them around pointlessly. Tell me what you have in mind to get rid of, I’m sure it will be … interesting. Foreign languages welcome, within reason (especially grammars and dictionaries).

I was going to leave this old daybed out on the sidewalk on Tuesday, the way people do in New York, and then it occurred to me that you probably had an interesting but superfluous book to swap for it, and that that would be more fun.
