Two New Blogs

Today sees the birth of 2 new blogs, and that makes this a great day for the bloggernacle.

Serpents and Doves is a new blog out of the UK, and I’m very excited by some of the new voices that it brings to the ‘Nacle. They use a scheduled daily post format, so be sure to check in every day to see what’s new.

Wheat & Tares is a new blog put together by veteran Bloggernacle participants.

I know nearly all of the participants in both of these blogs, and I can vouch for the fact that they’re all engaging thinkers and talented writers. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to these new endeavors.

‘Fess Up: Conference Weekend

Sure, everyone around the bloggernaccle watches General Conference avidly: it is, after all, great fodder for blog posts for at least a month and how else can you make fun of the haircuts, ties, and primary voices? But I suspect there are also people out there who watch General Conference just because they genuinely like it. I have even heard rumors of some people who view General Conference as a holiday weekend–no one has ever described themselves as such to me, they always seem to be a friend of a cousin, or something

How about you? Under the anonymity of an internet poll, how do you treat General Conference weekend?

General Conference Thread

We’re a day late and a dollar short here, but better late than never. I worked yesterday, but taped conference. I got a couple of facebook posts praising Elder Uchtdorf. I got home around 9 pm; Bill, who’d gone to the priesthood session, was warming soup for dinner. So he set up a TV tray and I fast forwarded the DVR to Elder Uchtdorf’s talk. I’m so glad I did. What a wealth of comfort and wisdom!

I’ve liked him–whatever that means, since I don’t really know him, but his talks haven’t been the ones I’ve looked forward to—-Elder Holland is a favorite. But this talk gave me such hope. He seemed so kind and loving. And understanding. What he said about not having a good relationship with myself was so profound. I almost felt like he’d been watching me.

I plan to watch today and hopefully my fellow bloggers will chime in a bit. Please feel free to share your thoughts on the speakers.

Obama, my final conclusions…for now

The Book Club met last week to discuss Sarah Palin’s book. I spoke with a friend, five years older than I, sharing my objections to the political statement I felt the choice of Going Rogue was—objections met by other objections.
